Behind the competition poster winner Carole Loves Art : learn about the inspiration and story behind her remarkable design.
Carole’s paintings, prints and pottery often explore themes of happiness and home. While her paintings are richly coloured, her ceramics are all about expression, often featuring whimsical characters. Her award-winning piece for the 2024 Poster Competition, entitled ‘Sunshine Over Alnmouth,’ was inspired when exhibiting at last year’s arts festival. Carole says that the idea for the work came, “when I took one of my sun pieces outside and held it up for a photograph in the sky. It was such a lovely experience to be around so many creative people doing what I really love in such a great setting that I felt quite emotional,” she adds. So, when the poster competition was announced this year, Carole made a piece especially for the Alnmouth Arts Festival and says that, “once it was fired, I realised that though it was small it had great heart, so I took a risk and entered it.” And, for the judges, it was love it at first sight.
